Abstract
Codesign is important, but during pandemic lock-down needed to be done remotely. We scoped a digital audio-reminiscence tool for people with dementia in care homes with key stakeholders. Zoom focus groups, following prerecorded presentation, were conducted with 15 professionals, students, community participants, and three care home residents and staff member. The residents had problems hearing well. Seven residents in another home contributed by picture questionnaire. A follow-up interview was held with the technology developer. Participants praised the digital audio-reminiscence concept, noting potential for enhanced relationships, calming effects, and re-living memories. Suggested content included historical events or bespoke childhood memories. Concerns raised included triggering negative memories or complicated interfaces. The developer reported codesign increased product confidence. Remote codesign can be acceptable, at least among the more digitally able, providing a face-to-face alternative when needed but more preparation is required so disadvantaged groups like care home residents can be included in future.
