Abstract
This exhibition traces the lines of influence between Jane Austen and her contemporaries, such as Frances Burney, Maria Edgeworth, and Ann Radcliffe, alongside lesser-known talents such as Jane West and Susan Ferrier. As a Chawton House Visiting Fellow, I contributed to this exhibition in the display 'Drama in the Drawing Room,' which highlights the role of theatre in Austen’s world, tracing how drama moved stage to page, as well as from public theatres to private parlours.
